Leger Street
Legerova street in Prague is a one-way street connecting Nuselský most and Wilsonova street.
It is named after the French professor and Slavologist Louis Léger (1843–1923), who supported the idea of an independent Czech state.
Most of the street is in the Nové Město district, the part from Římská street to Wilsonova is in the Vinohrady district.
Pronunciation
Although the surname Léger is read in French [leže(r)] and the street name should therefore read [ležerova], due to the low awareness of his eponym, the phonetic pronunciation prevailed in common use (or possibly, under the influence of German, completely incorrectly [légrova]). The correct pronunciation is therefore considered to be the established form [leger’s].
